Designed by font designer Syed Manzar Hasan Zaidi and developed by Axis Softmedia Pvt. Ltd., Javed is a bold and geometric Urdu/Arabic font characterized by its square shapes, sharp edges, and condensed and filled letterforms. Inspired by the Naskh and Kufic scripts with modern influences, this font features changing thickness throughout its strokes, with thin and pointy tips and denser from the middle. This creates a striking contrast and gives the impression of calligraphic writing done with a Qalam.
Released on February 21, 2016, Javed comprises 444 characters and 497 glyphs. It offers high legibility on screens and is compatible with Urdu, Arabic, Latin, Persian, and more languages. The font supports Unicode blocks, including Basic Latin, Arabic, and more. The font has a formal and straight appearance, with no decorative elements. Its wide yet condensed letters are well-suited for social media posts, headers, creative posters, and book covers. However, due to its extra-bold and condensed nature, reading may be challenging for long periods, making it best for shorter text blocks.
