Umairi, an intellectual property of Umair Khan and Urdu Web, draws inspiration from Neda Reyanah’s Persian Font to create a unique handwritten pencil Urdu typeface. Released on May 30, 2010, it offers a soft, untidy appearance with rounded and natural-looking letterforms that remind us of the Nastaliq script. With a single font-weight, the font features 252 characters and 240 glyphs, supporting Urdu, Latin, and Arabic languages. A single font weight that is only regular can limit its appeal among designers. However, it is ideal for long texts and presents a simple yet highly legible appearance, making it suitable for informal writing despite not being a formal font. The moderate thickness and strong strokes contribute to its readability, especially on screens. Umairi’s font look and feel exude simplicity and naturalness, characterized by unequal spacing, untidy rounded letterforms, and soft rounded edges. The corners are barely visible, adding to its smooth overall aesthetic. Whether used for poetry, book covers, informal writing, or posters, it offers a charming and inviting typography style that enhances the visual appeal of various design projects.
