Akbar is an open-source TrueType font that is known for its elegant appearance, designed by Syed Manzar Hasan Zaidi. It is a modern interpretation of Naskh script and was released under the copyrights of Axis SoftMedia Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, India, in 2008. It has vast character set of 444 and 497 number of glyphs. It has support for not only Arabic but also for Latin and Greek. Similar to classic Naskh, the letters exhibit a straight emphasis. Despite being influenced by heritage, it has a more modern appearance than certain traditional Naskh designs because of its somewhat straighter lines and less noticeable rounding. Moreover, Akbar is compatible with 11 Unicode blocks including Basic Latin, Arabic, General Punctuation, Currency Symbol, among others. It is a non-cursive script therefore is highly readable even when displayed in smaller size. The letters are thick, wide, filled, and have sharp edges. This font is mostly used for headlines and titles that need to be easily seen or some emphasized texts on posters or other branding purposes. However, the large, bold letters can make it difficult to read text that is more than a few sentences long.
