Al Qalam Fawad is a calligraphy Urdu font that uses the Naskh script, known for its straight lines and emphasis on horizontal strokes. However, this one has a thicker and more impactful stroke weight compared to some Naskh fonts. It was crafted by Pakistani calligraphers Attari Qadri and Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali Attari from Faisalabad. The font was released on January 30, 2016, and licensed under the trademark Attari Qadri. It incorporates 219 characters with a generous glyph count of 432, giving enough room to achieve many design goals. Although it is a Naskh font, it involves some modern design elements, making it versatile. It comes in two different weights, which are as follows:
- Al Qalam Fawad Bold Regular
Al Qalam Fawad Light Regular
Considering the look and feel of Al Qalam Fawad in general, it is a modern font with minimal design elements and dynamic thicknesses across characters. The letterforms are thick, even in the lighter version, solidifying the text’s impact. Moreover, the font offers a premium feel with soft angles and two-tipped pointy edges. Due to its diverse nature and availability of multiple weights, it can be used to make bold headings and short, impactful texts, whereas the lighter version can be used for longer text blocks.
