Ithra, meaning “enrichment” in Arabic, is a display font inspired by the Kufic calligraphy of the Fatimid Dynasty (909–1171). It is designed and licensed by Tarek Atrissi Design. It has a glyph count of 294 and a large character set of 304 letters and symbols. It is compatible with various languages, including Arabic, Latin, Urdu, and more, and the latest Unicode Standards. With two weights, it’s perfect for modern projects like web, print, and smartphone apps. These weights are:
- Ithra Bold
- Ithra Light
The Kufic script inspires Ithra but not a traditional Kufic font. However, its inline design suggests traces of the Naskh script. It is thick and wide, with sharp corners and two-edged pointy terminals. The thickness of the font remains constant, which makes it an appealing and highly readable typeface.
