TS Kaak is a modern Arabic font crafted by blending the Latin font “cookies and milk,” which was designed by Philip Trautmann. The font is a modern interpretation of the Kufic script, a historical Islamic calligraphy style known for its angular letterforms and geometric shapes. Compared to traditional Kufic, the letterforms are more straightforward and geometric, lacking intricate details. Moreover, the letters have a consistent width and strong squarish open and zero spaces, unlike traditional Kufic, which often features varying widths and less symmetry. It only comes in 2 styles, including:
- TS Kaak Bold
- TS Kaak Light
Designed by font designer Tarek Alsawwa, TS Kaak has a limited character set of 205 and an average glyph count of 246. Thus limiting its usability and room for design. However, it can be used in some design projects needing traditional Kufic essence with modern flair like tech posts and branding, posters, and more. Furthermore, it has the capability to use the latest Unicode blocks like Basic Latin, Arabic Presentation Form-A, Mathematical Operators, Arabic, and more.
