Gulzar is a contemporary Urdu Nastaliq typeface designed by Borna Izadpanah, Fiona Ross, Alice Savoie, and Simon Cozens. This versatile font was released on September 27, 2022, consisting of 413 characters and 1161 glyphs. Moreover, it supports 417 languages, including Urdu, Persian, Pashtu, and Arabic. Inspired by the Nastaliq script, this font offers a Qalam writing style with a moderate thickness, an elegant appearance, and diagonal letterforms. Developed for effective textual communication, it ensures legibility at all text sizes for sustained reading, both in digital and print mediums. The font features constant thickness with slightly slanted edges, providing a formal yet easy-to-understand aesthetic. Its Latin counterpart draws inspiration from Robert Granjon’s and Hendrik van den Keere’s works, including subtle references to calligraphic roots while maintaining classical typographic proportions.
