Lalezar is an Arabic and Latin display typeface designed to evoke the bold and dynamic lettering of 1960s and 1970s Iranian film posters. Led by Borna Izadpanah, the project aims to revive the distinctive qualities of this genre and adapt them into a modern, multilingual display typeface. It contains 1219 glyphs and an extensive charset of 946 letters and punctuations with support for multiple languages including Arabic, Urdu, Latin, and more. The font is bold and bubbly with filled letters and soft corners. The terminals are wide and two-tipped and the overall thickness throughout the letters is constant which increases its readability. Lalezar was made specifically for film posters but it can also be used to make book covers, logos, branding, and other creative projects that need the flair of the old 60’s era. Although the font is highly legible, it cannot be used for longer texts due to its bold and heavy nature. Though the main inspiration comes from a form of letters that represents the Persian language, the goal here is to create a font that can be used for the majority of languages that use the Arabic script for written communication.
