Al Majeed Quranic is an Urdu/Arabic font designed by Abdul Majeed for writing the Holy Quran. PDMS has released this OpenType Font. PDMS, based in Karachi, has been developing Urdu software since 1986, including the popular ‘Nastaleeq Nizami’ for Urdu publishing. The font has 841 high quality glyphs and proper placement of all aeraabs/markings, as well as waqfs symbols for reading pauses. With the characters set of 544, this font shows its compatibility with a variety of languages other than Urdu and Arabic. It closely resembles Arabic calligraphy while maintaining the Quran Majeed text’s beauty and legibility. Al Majeed Quranic has soft edges and corners along with dynamic strokes with horizontal emphasis, indicating its relation to the Naskh script. The font follows Quranic calligraphy rules in Pakistan, specifically the style of Yameen Dehlvi. Mohammed Saleem provided guidance and calligraphy for the font, inspired by Shafiq uz Zaman. The font is suitable for desktop and internet publishing using software supporting OTF specifications, such as Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer.
